STATELINE, NV – The Tahoe Knight Monsters, proud ECHL Affiliate of the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights and the AHL’s Henderson Silver Knights, defeated the Kansas City Mavericks by a score of 5-2.
Kansas City scored the only goal of the first period, as Nolan Walker scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season on the power play, and the Mavericks took a 1-0 lead into the locker room.
The Knight Monsters flipped the game in the second period. A power play goal from Keanan Stewart got the scoring started, tying the game at 1, and another power play goal, this time from Shane Smith, gave Tahoe a 2-1 lead. After Smith added on his second goal of the frame, and Jett Jones scored his first goal of the season shorthanded, the Knight Monsters roared out to a 4-1 lead heading into the third period.
In the final frame, Jack Randl scored to cut the lead back down to two, but with less than five minutes left in the game, Shane Smith scored his third goal of the game on the power play, giving Tahoe a 5-2 lead, which would later be the final score.
The hat trick by Smith gave him five goals in the series against Kansas City and was the ninth hat trick in Knight Monsters franchise history.
Jake McGrew also had a standout performance as he recorded five assists in the game.
