Knight Monsters Fetch Big Win Against Mavericks in 3-1 Defensive Battle on Pucks and Paws Knight

STATELINE, NV – The Tahoe Knight Monsters, proud ECHL Affiliate of the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights and the AHL’s Henderson Silver Knights, defeated the Kansas City Mavericks in their first matchup of the season by a score of 3-1.  

 

Tahoe found the back of the net early into the game as rookie forward Shane Smith scored his first professional goal just under five minutes into the contest, and Tahoe took a 1-0 lead. Later in the frame at the 8:55 mark, Keanan Stewart found the back of the net for his first goal of the season, and the Knight Monsters took a 2-0 lead into the second period.

 

Both teams were kept off the scoresheet in the middle frame as Tahoe’s Jordan Papirny and Kansas City’s Connor Murphy stopped a combined 20 shots, and the score remained 2-0 Tahoe entering the third. 

 

In the third, the lamp lighting didn’t come until under two minutes left in the period when Kansas City’s Andrei Loshko scored with an extra attacker on the ice, and the Mavericks cut the lead to 2-1. However, with under 30 seconds left in regulation, Shane Smith scored his second goal of the game on an empty-net insurance marker to help put Tahoe up by two, and eventually give the Knight Monsters a 3-1 win. 

 

Jordan Papirny had a great night in net, stopping 28 of 29 Kansas City shots. 

 

The Knight Monsters return to Tahoe Blue Event Center on Friday, October 30, as they take on the Kansas City Mavericks and celebrate Nevada Day. Puck drop is set for 7 pm PT.
