STATELINE, NV – The Tahoe Knight Monsters, proud ECHL Affiliate of the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights and the AHL’s Henderson Silver Knights, announced the signing of defenseman Mike Van Unen.
Van Unen returns to the Knight Monsters after appearing in 15 games at the end of last season, where he notched three assists.
A native of Kamloops, British Columbia, Van Unen was acquired by Tahoe in a trade from the Indy Fuel that sent rookie forward Cody Laskosky to the Fuel. Van Unen tallied a goal and two assists in 10 games with Indy and one assist in four games with the Rapid City Rush last season.
Van Unen spent the 2024-25 season with the Allen Americans, appearing in 42 games with two assists. He began his professional career at the end of the 2023-24 season with the Adirondack Thunder, skating in 11 games with an assist.
The 6-foot-1 defenseman played collegiately at Northern Michigan University, appearing in 150 contests with 37 points (9g-28a) across five seasons.
The Knight Monsters open the 2026-27 season at home on Friday, October 23, as they take on the New Mexico Goatheads at Tahoe Blue Event Center.
