Knight Monsters Inaugural Game Ends With Overtime Loss to Jacksonville.

STATELINE, NV – The Tahoe Knight Monsters, in their inaugural game at the Tahoe Blue Event Center, executed a thrilling third period comeback but fell just short in overtime, losing to the Jacksonville Icemen 4-3.

The energy was palpable right from opening puck drop, with a sold out crowd of over 4,200 fans filling the stands.

Rookie defender Artur Cholach started the party early in the first period with a goal from the top of the slot, sending the fans into a frenzy for the first goal in franchise history. But Jacksonville would equalize later in the frame with a power play goal off the stick of Logan Cockerill.

The Knight Monsters heavily outshot the Icemen in the first 14-6, but Jacksonville netminder Matt Vernon made a few outstanding saves to keep the score tied.

Things fell apart for Tahoe in the second, as they allowed two goals in quick succession in the middle of the frame. Brendan Harris scored on the power play eight minutes in, and then two minutes later Zach Jordan tucked home a rebound to extend the Icemen lead to 3-1.

But then in the third, a switch flipped for the Knight Monsters.

With under six and a half minutes to go in the game, defender Brennan Kapcheck cut the deficit in half with a goal that he poked in on the doorstep. Jett Jones was the driver of the play initially with a stellar individual effort to get to the goalmouth, and Kapcheck in the rest.

And two minutes later with Tahoe on the power play, it was Kapcheck who dished a perfect stretch pass to forward Simon Pinard, who skated in unopposed and tied up the game at three.

The matchup then went to overtime, and both teams traded high quality opportunities in the extra frame. But disaster struck for Tahoe when Knight Monsters goaltender Jesper Vikman and forward Jake McGrew got crossed up in the blue paint, and the puck trickled in to end the game. It was Harris who was credited with the game-winning-goal.

Vernon finished the contest making 36-39 saves, while Knight Monsters goaltender Jesper Vikman stopped 20 of the 24 shots he saw.

The Knight Monsters will look to even the two game set against Jacksonville on Friday, October 25, at the Tahoe Blue Event Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30. Ticket packages for the 2024-25 season are now available. For more information, visit www.knightmonstershockey.com
